Week of April 24
Religion
Congratulations to all of the 2nd Graders on making their First Communion! This week the students will learn ways to use the Eucharist after leaving Mass. The students will understand what it means to become what you receive. We will discuss ways to serve others and fulfill our sacred mission.
Everyday Math
Unit 10 continues. The students will review place value early in the week. Students will identify values of numbers into the 1,000's and 10,000's. There will be a Unit 10 Review on Thursday and Unit Assessment Friday. Please look for a study guide Thursday evening!

Daily 5 routines and Guided Reading groups Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Mini-Lessons: Text Features
Being a Writer
The students will continue their biography research. Each student will take Power Notes (a modern outline) and turn their learning into an informative report. Students will share information about their person's early life, fame and service to others!
Science
Students will celebrate Earth Day on Monday! They will research ways to care for and preserve the Earth using the Pebble Go app on student iPads. On Wednesday, our study of space starts! The students will be able to identify and list features of objects visible in the night sky.

Week of April 10
Religion
This week we will finish Chapter 7 in our Eucharist books, as well as focus on Holy Week. The students will fully understand what it means to receive the Eucharist and how to use the Eucharist to be good servants of the Lord. The students will complete a Stations of the Cross activity on Holy Thursday to prepare for the Living Stations on Friday afternoon. Please feel free to join us in the church on Good Friday at 2:30.
Everyday Math
Unit 10 begins. Please look for a new family letter. This week the students will practice counting money and learn decimal notation for both pennies and dimes. The students will also count money amounts using a calculator, as well as practice estimating costs.

Mini-Lessons: Biographies
Being a Writer
The students will choose their biography person on Tuesday! Please know we work very hard to accommodate a student's interest with his/her reading level. Both of these items are very important to us as a team. There will be a reading assignment this week/weekend! However, don't fret! The majority of the Biography Unit is completed at school. Please look for a letter to come home later this week explaining everything.
Science
Students will begin studying weather. The students will recognize the difference between weather and temperature. We will introduce various tools used to measure weather. The students will identify three types of clouds and review the water cycle.

Week of April 3
Religion
The students will continue learning about the Liturgy of the Eucharist. They will understand the parts of the Eucharistic prayer and how the bread and wine are consecrated by the power of the Holy Spirit into the Body and Blood of Christ. The students will have opportunities to practice receiving the Eucharist in the classroom.
Everyday Math
Unit 9 with a continue and end with a focus on different types of measurement. The students will focus on capacity this week, as well as weight. There will be a unit review and assessment.

Mini-Lessons: Text Features
Being a Writer
The students will begin their study of biographies. We will introduce the concept of biographies to the students. They will all complete a classmate interview this week, take their research and transpose it into a Top 10 List. The students will have an opportunity to share their research with the class.
Science
Students will begin studying weather. The students will recognize the difference between weather and temperature. We will introduce various tools used to measure weather. The week will culminate with a storm chaser visit from Channel 13 News! This will be very exciting.
