Merry Christmas Week

Religion
Liturgical Seasons Test Tuesday.

Everyday Math
This week the students will complete one addition time test and one subtraction time test to chart growth from the beginning of the year. We will also be doing a graphing lesson!

Social Studies
Finish learning about Christmas, Kwanzaa and Hanukkah.

Tuesday = GRINCH DAY!
All lessons and activities will be Grinch related.

December 5-9

Religion
Congratulations to all of the 2nd Grade students on a beautiful Reconciliation weekend. On Monday the students will complete a sacrament reflection page and discuss their experiences.  As the week continues, the students will prepare for the 2nd week of Advent. The students will lead the school prayer service on Friday at 2:50 pm.  Our next unit will be on the Liturgical Seasons.

Everyday Math
This week the students will continue double digit addition practice.  The students will learn and apply different strategies to solve double digit problems.  Please be sure to review your child's math home links so you understand how the problems are being solved.  On Friday there will be a Unit 4 review.

Daily 5
Daily 5 routines and Guided Reading groups Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Mini-Lessons: -Fiction vs Non-Fiction comparison

                      -Beginning and ending story elements
Being a Writer
On Monday the students will write an Elf Application.  This will support their learning of opinion writing. Later in the week, the students will finish their pet stories.  They will listen to the book Sheila Rae the Brave and learn about how author's develop characters.  Characters are developed through the use of adjectives and descriptive language so as to give the reader something to visualize in their mind.

Science
Earth's Resources Unit continues.  This unit will be inquiry-based and full of observations and explorations. The students will be looking at different types of rocks and putting them into categories based on features.  Be sure to ask your child each night about their new discoveries!
