Week of February 6

Religion
This week we begin preparation for the sacrament of First Communion. The students will renew their Baptismal promises in the classroom and begin to understand the sacraments as gifts from God. Mrs. Waters's class will lead mass on Wednesday, February 8th. Please look for a First Communion pledge to come home! This is to be completed as a family.

Everyday Math
Unit 7 begins. The students will look at patterns in counting, extending compliments of 10, as well as doubling and halving numbers. Please look for a new family letter and home links in your child's red folder this week!

Daily 5
Daily 5 routines and Guided Reading groups Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
Mini-Lessons: Collective nouns (animal groups)

Being a Writer
The students will complete a main idea and details organizer independently this week with the end goal being to write a paragraph using the organizer. Students are still learning how to write paragraphs that include a topic sentence, 3-4 supporting details and an ending sentence. Ending sentences can be written in three different ways: repeat the topic sentence, express thought or express feeling.

Science
Students will complete frayer models on mammals, birds, reptiles and insects. We would like students be able to identify major characteristics of each animal group. As the week continues, we will delve into our habitats study. The students will learn about six different habitats and how animals interact in their environments.
