Week of February 28

Religion
This week the students will continue First Communion preparation, as well as celebrate Fat Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. The students will learn the history of Fat Tuesday and color an Alleluia page to put away until Easter arrives. We will celebrate Ash Wednesday with Mass and the receiving of ashes.

Everyday Math
Unit 8 begins. The students will kick-off the week by learning about fractions. The students will recognize that the top number of a fraction represents the "part" and the bottom number is the "whole" or total number of parts. In this unit, students will learn to read fractions, draw fractions and compare fractions. Please look for a new family letter and home links in your child's red folder this week!

Daily 5
Daily 5 routines and Guided Reading groups Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Mini-Lessons: Prefixes and Suffixes

Being a Writer
The students will begin an animal research project this week. Each student will choose an animal to become an expert on. Experts will be able to discuss the habitat, diet, size, color and unique facts about an animal. This research will be transpired into an animal report utilizing the use of paragraph writing (which has been our focus for the past two week). Should be fun!

Science
Students will finish their habitats study. There will be an assessment this week!
